Hunter College Head Coach of Wrestling

Pete Jacobson

Director of Athletics Terry Wansart announces the hiring of Pete Jacobson as the Head Wrestling Coach and Assistant Athletic Director. When completing the hiring process, Wansart stated, “He brings a wealth of wrestling and leadership knowledge, along with a ‘can-do attitude. As a former NYC firefighter, he demonstrates teamwork, tenacity, safety, and facing the unknown with confidence.”

Jacobson will oversee all aspects of the Wrestling program and as an Assistant Athletic Director will be a member of the senior administration team in the Athletic department.

Jacobson spent the last 21 years coaching his alma mater, Edgemont High School, in Westchester County. Over his time with the Panthers, Jacobson built a program from eight student-athletes to over 100 wrestlers each year at the youth, middle school, and high school levels.

His Edgemont teams had significant success over the years with multiple league championships and sectional championships. The Panthers were also selected by the Section 1 Officials as the team of the year for sportsmanship multiple times during his tenure.

When asked about the leadership for the wrestling program, Wansart said, “He also brings two decades of high school coaching experience, with local, regional, and national connections in the wrestling industry, which will serve him and the athletic department well.”…
